From the Buffalo Trail to Highway 69
The Jefferson Highway follows a path originally worn by herds of Bison traveling through the Great Plains. Native tribes followed these herds, establishing camps, villages, and mounds. What then became known as “Osage Trace” went on to form a line of forts and trading posts, and eventually towns. By 1915, this old route would become a part of the Jefferson Highway, and later on the present-day Highway 69.
