Muskogee’s Jefferson Highway Bridge Over the Arkansas River
One of the most important remaining original bridge structures on the entire Jefferson Highway route is located today just a few miles to the north of Muskogee, Oklahoma. Here, across the Arkansas River, after nearly one hundred years, this remnant steel structure stands today next to a modern bridge.

At the organizational meeting of the Jefferson Highway Association held in New Orleans in November 1915, the Oklahoma and Texas delegations worked hard to convince the other delegates that the Jefferson Highway should be routed through their states.
The Drive is Fine on Route 69
